How Can I Switch Careers?

I want to get more into computers or networks. At every position, I've worked to troubleshoot problems with software, networks and hardware. My question is: What do I need to do or what classes do I need to take to get a position in the field I want?
Also, you may want to do informational interviews at companies with the kinds of jobs you would enjoy. Ask them what the minimum qualifications are for this work. Then, identify the steps you can take to obtain such qualifications, whether they be new degrees, work experience, or some other combination. You'll probably make less than your current salary if you move into an entry-level position, but computer/network jobs are in very high demand. You should be able to leverage any experience you get into a higher salary before too long. In the short term, you might consider volunteering at a local charity that needs computer help. You'll get a taste of what this position would offer, with no risk on your part. Best of all, you can add this to your résumé as relevant experience. Always remember this: You're never too old to make a career change! Just do a job you enjoy, and the money will follow.
